hCG (the pregnancy hormone) peaks around now.

Translation: you may cry without warning at things that don't deserve crying. Or get blindsided by a wave of grief or fear or homesickness for a thing you don't recognize. None of it means anything is wrong. The hormone shows up like weather.

✦ Name it when you can — even just to yourself: "this is the hormones." Naming shrinks it a little.
✦ Eat protein in the morning, even if nothing sounds good. Low blood sugar makes everything worse.
✦ If the low mood lasts more than two weeks or feels like more than weather, call your provider. Prenatal depression is real and treatable.
