What happens in week 36

A storm pushes you off course. The ship enters a vast sea cave — the only shelter for miles, dim turquoise light filtering down through the water. Below the surface, an old shipwreck looms. The Captain shows it to you and says, simply: Some don't make it. We do what we can. It's meant honestly, not cruelly.

Baby has likely "dropped" — moved down into the pelvis, a process called lightening.

You may breathe easier and walk worse. Term is one week away, which is a strange psychological line: for forty weeks "early" was the worry, and starting next week, "early" is fine. The shift catches some people off guard.

✦ Know the difference between bloody show and bleeding. Show is small, mucus-y, blood-tinged, and normal pre-labor. Bleeding is a call. When in doubt, call.
✦ If you find yourself Googling complications past midnight, close the tab and message your provider's nurse line in the morning instead. Late-night search is anxiety dressed up as research.
